Why? How does it work? How long?

Why?

For many people, orthodontics is mostly about having a nice smile. And it’s true that when our young patients come out of the clinic, when their treatment is over, they’re all proud of their smile.

Though orthodontics treatments also allow to avoid future problems: gum recession, tooth wear, increased tooth crowding, joint and muscular pain.

Orthodontics is mostly about prevention.

How does it work?

Applying slight and constant pressure on teeth (meaning 24/7), bone cells get working. They remodel the bone all around the moving teeth. This way, teeth come smoothly towards the desired position. This is mostly true for braces. For children or adolescents growing up, bigger appliances will be able to act on the bone structure. Exercised pressures are bigger: it’s not the teeth that are moving anymore but the jaws, thanks to growth guidance by the appliance.

How long?

Average length of treatments in our clinic is of a year and a half. That can be made in two phases (6 months + 1 year) for certain patients, so treatment length in adolescence is shortened. Therefore total period during which the patient actually wears his appliance is only a year and a half long. No more endless treatments! Of course it depends on the importance of the correction to realise, patient’s facial growth and respond to treatment. Thanks to our patients’ help, we reach our treatments’ length goals in 90% of cases, and sometimes end faster than expected.

Patient’s cooperation is key for treatment success.
